Our 2013 Ultra Adventure

2012 has been a great year running-wise for us. In the midst of finishing up graduate school, moving 2-3 times, traveling a lot and settling into new jobs, we both managed to fit in a number of significant races and accomplish our goals. Kristen completed 2 marathons and 2 ultra-marathons (50k's), setting a PR at both marathons (Rock n' Roll USA in Washington DC in March & Richmond Marathon in November) and qualifying for the Boston Marathon. Jordan ran a new 50k PR at the New River Trail 50k, followed that up with a Boston Marathon qualifying performance at the NCR Trail Marathon in November and a strong showing at the Hellgate 100k in December. Moving back our beloved town of Blacksburg has allowed us to get involved with the new VT Ultrarunning team and have met many great new running friends to share our adventures with!

In 2014 we plan to run the Boston Marathon (along with Kristen's dad who also qualified and hopefully a few friends). For 2013, however, we have decided to tackle a different type of adventure- the completion of the two ultra-marathon series held in Virginia. Jordan will aim to complete the Beast Series and Kristen the Lynchburg Ultra Series.

The Beast Series is composed of 6 ultras (ranging from 50k to 100 miles) and the Lynchburg Ultra Series is composed of 4 ultras (three 50k's and one 50 miler). Jordan will be competing in two races in addition to the LUS to complete the Beast Series: The Grindstone 100 miler and Hellgate 100k.

Our combined total mileage for these races will be approximately 452 miles of racing !! We hope to do a few additional races along the way, but these are the ones set in our plans as of right now. It will be a new adventure of sorts, and one which we are looking forward to doing it together, pushing each other along the way! We will use this blog as a record of our racing and training adventure for 2013, and maybe beyond that. Hope you will join along!

Happy Trails,
